Canada's Blue Jays Earn World Series Matchup Against Los Angeles Dodgers
The outfielder previously helped the Houston Astros claiming the championship in 2017.
Canada's MLB team reached their first Fall Classic following the 1993 season by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the American League Championship Series.
Trailing by two runs, the star outfielder hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning, guiding the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 series triumph in the seven-game series. Next up are the Dodgers, who are the defending champions, in the anticipated championship.
"I'm thrilled for our team, Toronto, our country," Springer stated, an integral part of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "What an incredible feeling."
Springer has now connected for 23 total post-season home runs, ranking him third all-time behind Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else in the world that I'd choose in that situation besides him with his October magic," remarked manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a championship series.
Manager Dan Wilson stated "there's no question that it's going to sting" in the wake of his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but commended their work this season.
"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this game," he continued.
Toronto won the championship on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and are set to host the Dodgers in game one on the upcoming Friday.
