Gus Atkinson increased the fitness woes of the England squad upon exiting the field during Saturday's play of the Boxing Day Test versus the Australians.
Atkinson pulled up with his left hamstring after the final ball in his spell on Saturday.
The England team stated Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and required time away from the action to undergo evaluation "in the coming hours".
The concluding match of the series beginning on 4 January starts this coming Sunday.
The visitors have been without fast bowlers one seamer with a knee problem and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain during this series.
Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.
Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, taking just three wickets.
