Spurs Boss Thomas Frank Calls Vicario Critics 'Not True Genuine Supporters'

The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Spurs and Raise Pressure on the Manager

Tottenham Hotspur fans who jeered keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told later "those individuals can't be true Spurs fans" by manager Frank.

Spurs let in a pair of scores in the opening six minutes to lose 2-1 to Fulham, marking their 10th top-flight home defeat of 2025.

However the main topic of discussion was the visitors' next goal when Vicario gave away the ball far beyond his area.

He came out to deal with a long ball and carried the ball towards the sideline.

But, rather than booting it into touch, the Italy international turned and tried to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was collected by Josh King.

King passed the ball off to Welsh midfield player Harry Wilson, who bent a strike into the goal from the sideline measured at thirty-six point six metres.

Moments later when the ball went to the keeper once more, a number of Spurs fans jeered him.

The team were jeered off at half-time, with the side 2-0 down, and again at the final whistle.

One of those booing sessions really irritated Frank.

"It came to my attention a few of our supporters apparently booed the situation and jeered after, which, in my view is totally unacceptable," the Danish manager stated regarding the supporters' response to his goalkeeper.

"[They] cannot be true Tottenham supporters that act that way. Alright booing after the game, no problem, but when we are playing, we are supporting one another, we are behind one another going forward."

Tete had given the visitors a early advantage prior to Wilson's goal – with Kudus netting for Spurs in an improved second-half performance.

Former Premier League goalkeeper Hart stated that the next goal was "completely avoidable".

"I certainly appreciate the supporters' frustration," Hart continued. "I know the role the keeper is performing. He is a great squad member, he is a real leader in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your actions.

"He was heavily implicated in what ended up to be the winning score."

'It is In the Game, I'm a Big Man'

Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Game

Italian international Vicario is in his third campaign with Spurs.

The 29-year-old stated following the match that he had to accept the feedback.

"The second score was a error of my own, I take responsibility for it," he said.

"The intent was to clear the ball far and I simply struck the ball in a poor manner. That made an even bigger mountain to overcome."

He said receiving jeers "is part of the game".

"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he continued. "The team cannot be influenced by the situation in the stands. The fans have the entitlement to do what they think.

"It's on the team to remain increasingly calm, to focus on ourselves. We are lacking in calmness and calmness to overturn outcomes. This match is a bad loss and it is hard to take."

'It Shocked Me Nobody Returned to the Line'

Despite Vicario's error, it was not an easy score for Wilson to score.

Actually it was the second longest-range Premier League score of the campaign – after Adams' forty-three point three metre strike for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which incidentally also came on the same day.

Wilson stated he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an open goal to aim for.

10 seconds elapsed between Vicario coming out of his area and Wilson shooting – which was five moments following the clearance.

"I felt like the goalkeeper was out of the area for a long time," he remarked.

"I was surprised none of the back four returned to the goal line. When not one of them defended the goal, my eyes lit up a bit.

"Udogie slipped too, which allowed me a little extra opportunity. After that it was solely about attempting to achieve the right connection and place it on target. I felt a good feeling, as soon as it came off my boot, that it was on the right line."

'During in a Poor Run, Everything Seems to Go Against You'

Jeering Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unjustifiable - Frank

Although Vicario's error led headlines, this was an overall bad performance for Tottenham to continue their home ground woes.

The match was their 10th at home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared team record along with 1994 and 2003.

They still have home fixtures against the manager's former club the Bees and title holders the Reds to play prior to the end of the season.

Only one of those victories have occurred since Frank took over from Ange Postecoglou in the summer.

"If you are down 2-0 after six minutes, there is a mountain to climb," stated the boss.

"During in a bad spell, everything seems to work against you as well – the opening was a redirected shot, the second is a error from the keeper.

"The outcome leaves us in a place where we have suffered another game. Every game has a single narrative, today we were defeated in the first six minutes.

"We just need to keep working. The second half was much better and with luck something we can utilize to learn."

Spurs have lost four consecutive home capital clashes for the initial time in the Premier League.

And they are recording nine point five attempts and three point two shots on target per match in the division – their lowest rates on record in a single season (dating back to the 2003-04 season).

Ex- Fulham midfield player Danny Murphy commented that the manager has to ride the storm.

"He must take the criticism," the pundit said. "He's taken a high profile job at a major team with massive expectation. There is pressure and responsibility that comes with that.

"The performances at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
