The top legal official in Texas Paxton is filing a lawsuit against the manufacturers of Tylenol, alleging the firms hid safety concerns that the pain reliever posed to children's cognitive development.

The lawsuit follows thirty days after Former President Trump promoted an unverified association between consuming Tylenol - also known as acetaminophen - throughout gestation and autism in children.

The attorney general is taking legal action against the pharmaceutical giant, which previously sold the drug, the exclusive pain medication suggested for women during pregnancy, and the current manufacturer, which currently produces it.

In a official comment, he claimed they "betrayed America by making money from suffering and marketing drugs regardless of the dangers."

The manufacturer says there is insufficient reliable data tying Tylenol to autism spectrum disorder.

"These corporations deceived for years, knowingly endangering millions to increase profits," the attorney general, from the Republican party, said.

The company said in a statement that it was "deeply concerned by the spread of false claims on the security of paracetamol and the likely effects that could have on the welfare of American women and children."

On its website, the company also stated it had "consistently assessed the pertinent research and there is insufficient valid information that shows a established connection between using acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder."

Groups representing doctors and health professionals concur.

The leading OB-GYN organization has stated paracetamol - the main ingredient in acetaminophen - is among limited choices for pregnant women to manage discomfort and elevated temperature, which can create significant medical dangers if not addressed.

"In more than two decades of research on the use of paracetamol in gestation, no reliable research has definitively established that the use of paracetamol in any trimester of gestation leads to neurodevelopmental disorders in offspring," the association said.

This legal action cites current declarations from the former administration in arguing the medication is reportedly hazardous.

Last month, the former president generated worry from health experts when he advised women during pregnancy to "struggle intensely" not to use Tylenol when sick.

The FDA then issued a notice that medical professionals should consider limiting the use of acetaminophen, while also declaring that "a direct connection" between the medication and autism spectrum disorder in young ones has not been proven.

The Health Department head RFK Jr, who manages the Food and Drug Administration, had pledged in spring to undertake "extensive scientific investigation" that would establish the cause of autism in a limited time.

But specialists cautioned that finding a single cause of autism spectrum disorder - considered by experts to be the result of a complicated interplay of inherited and environmental factors - would be difficult.

Autism is a category of enduring cognitive variation and disability that influences how individuals encounter and engage with the environment, and is recognized using doctors' observations.

In his court filing, the attorney general - who supports Trump who is running for US Senate - asserts Kenvue and J&J "intentionally overlooked and attempted to silence the research" around acetaminophen and autism.

The lawsuit attempts to require the firms "remove any commercial messaging" that asserts acetaminophen is reliable for pregnant women.

The court case echoes the complaints of a group of guardians of minors with autism spectrum disorder and ADHD who filed suit against the manufacturers of acetaminophen in 2022.

A federal judge threw out the case, saying investigations from the family's specialists was inconclusive.
