The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
